Climbing Mont Blanc: Restday

On Wednesday we rested. In fairness we were pretty screwed from the training as the Tuesday was very eventful and long. We had planned to go up in the cable car at Chamonix to try and get some time in at high altitude - I had heard that this might be useful for acclimatisation – but in the end we decided that extra rest would be better. We were really worried about the weather and that the ascent would have to be cancelled. There had been some high winds forecast for the Friday. The guide told us that wind below 80kph are ok but anything above is lethal so we would have to cancel. At winds below but close to 80kmp ascent is possible but not very pleasant. This is because it gets much colder in the wind. At six o clock we go to meet the guides in Saint Gervaise. I see three new guides and my heart lifts because I know that the weather must be ok. We are introduced to the new guides. One has good English and I furiously attempt to ingratiate myself with him.
