Buying into Mobile
This year I finally bought into mobile. Largely thanks to 3G and the Nokia N95. Last week I bought a new 4GB memory card on ebay for my phone. I did this on the bus while heading to a Wimba event in Trinity College Dublin. Buying something on ebay from my phone tips the scales for me that mobile is a mature and usable technology. The hype has finally died (WAP anyone?) and the platform is reliable and fun to use.
Another thing that excites me about the N95 right now is the Nokia Sports Tracker program. This neat little app uses the N95’s built-in GPS to track your position and tell you how far you’ve run/walked/cycyled jogged. It estimates thing like altitude, step-rate, speeds etc. It also searches your phone for any photos you took during this activity and geo-tags them to the location. It stitches all this information together in an online web-service where you can see a map of where you ran with all the data and photos. Here’s a snapshot of a short run I took on Portrane beach in Dublin (click the image to see the full workout):

The N95 has also (re)opened up podcasting to me - love it. I can listen and learn.

@John That’s something I must try. I have used the audio recorde to take memos and found it good (especially to record the names of songs or pieces of music I hear on the radio that I want to remember)

thanks for the tip John I finally got around to isntalling trying the podcast app for the n95 the other day and I am super impressed. The main flaw in podcasting has been that mp3 players were not internet enabled so you always had an annoying intermediary step with a computer. no more. Now just wait till the kindle arrives in Ireland!
